ShillongShillong, the capital town of Meghalaya is surrounded by hills. It is one of the smallest states in India, with a population of 232,946 (2001 India census). All major north eastern states are well connected by roads through Shillong.

Shillong has always been known for its scenic beauty. Tourist spots in Shillong attract thousands of visitors every year. One of the most famous tourist spots is the Shillong Golf Course, which is one of the largest golf courses (the worlds wettest) in Asia and is called Gleneagles of the East. Other places include the Wards Lake, Lady Hydari Park, Shillong Peak, etc.

Shillong witnesses a sub-tropical climate with mild summers and chilly to cold winters. The monsoons arrive in June and it rains almost until the end of August.

Lasuboon is the main festival for the people of Shillong and they celebrate it with great enthusiasm every year. With the majority of population in Shillong being Christians, another important festival is celebrated there is Christmas.

With the establishment of two nationally acclaimed institutes, namely the Indian Institute Of Management and National Institute Of Fashion Technology, Shillong has become one of the fastest growing educational hub for the entire North eastern region.
